This working paper seeks to provide examples on how different countries have developed successful mechanisms to prevent and resolve disputes in labour relations in the public service. It showcases effective ways to develop collective bargaining systems and provides approaches and formulas for dispute resolution. Through country examples it describes the different bargaining processes and mechanisms and other features of the bargaining process. The paper is built on the principle that social dialogue should be the main feature of public sector dispute prevention and resolution systems, both in its formation and its operation.
